News and media - press releases: Aiming for further growth through the evolution of the value chain business

Komatsu started a recycled components business for hybrid hydraulic excavators in Japan.

Komatsu Corporation (President: Hiroyuki Ogawa) has launched a reman* (recycled components business) for capacitors and inverters, which are key components for hybrid hydraulic excavators, in Japan. In the future, we plan to expand the scope of the same component for hybrid excavators overseas.

In 2008, Komatsu became the first company in the world to introduce a hybrid hydraulic excavator to the market, contributing to the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions at customers' sites. Hybrid excavators use a proprietary system that converts the energy generated during deceleration of vehicle turning into electrical energy through an inverter, stores it in a capacitor, and uses it as auxiliary energy during turning drive and engine acceleration. Taking advantage of its strengths in developing and producing components in-house, Komatsu restores components such as engines and transmissions that have been removed from construction machinery that has been in operation at the customer's site for a long period of time through a number of processes such as disassembly, cleaning, repair, parts replacement, reassembly, painting, and shipping inspection. We are developing a reman business that resupplies re-products to the market as recycled components. In the case of hybrid hydraulic excavators, in response to customer requests, we have now realized a remnant of capacitors and inverters. It is compatible with hybrid hydraulic excavators (HB series) currently sold and operated in Japan. The first electrical system reman scheme for Komatsu's reman business has been added to the lineup, enabling component repairs at low cost, contributing to the reduction of the total life cycle cost of hybrid hydraulic excavators and the reduction of environmental impact, such as the reduction of waste and CO2 emissions.
Going forward, we will continue to evolve our value chain business, including parts sales, maintenance, and repairs after the sale of new cars, so that customers can use machines with peace of mind from the time they purchase a new car to the time it is sold as a used car.

Komatsu has adopted the medium-term management plan "DANTOTSU Value – Together, to "The Next" for sustainable growth through the Dantotsu Value (creation of customer value that creates a virtuous cycle of improving profitability and solving ESG issues), we will step into the next stage toward the future site and aim to create new value in order to pass on a sustainable future to the next generation.
