Komatsu to introduce Black ownership through the establishment of the Komatsu Development Trust

Komatsu is pleased to announce that it will establish the Komatsu Development Trust, which will provide education, training and social welfare programmes to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans. Through the establishment of the Komatsu Development Trust, Komatsu will have 25.04% Black ownership, and as such Komatsu will be recognised as a BEE Entity.

Komatsu recognises the inequalities prevalent in South African society and is committed to Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment. The establishment of the Komatsu Development Trust is the next step in the company’s continuing commitment to improving and empowering the lives of Historically Disadvantaged South Africans.

Komatsu’s global corporate social responsibility programmes centre on human resource development and fostering growth within societies. The provision of empowerment through education, training and social welfare programmes via the Komatsu Development Trust conforms with Komatsu’s global corporate social responsibility principles.

The formation of the Komatsu Development Trust and introduction of ownership by Historically Disadvantaged South Africans is expected to be completed by July 2014. This is a very positive and important milestone for our company and will enhance our position within South African society.
